How Do I Become Saved?

"How Do I Become Saved?"  Have you ever thought about this question?  Do you know the answer to the question?

It is very important to seriously consider this question today because your response will determine how you will live your life.  It will also determine where you will spend eternity after you die.  After I die, you're asking.  Yes, there is life after death.  How you live will determine whether you will spend eternity with God in heaven or be damned to hell to spend an eternity of torment with the devil. I encourage you to continue reading this blog in its entirety.

God loves us so much that He has extended grace and mercy to us.  It is His desire that everyone be saved.  Salvation is a free gift from God.  John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."  God being rich in mercy and full of endless great love has even loved us when we were overcome in our transgressions; yet, He made us alive together with His Son, Christ Jesus (by grace we have are saved), and raised up with Him, and seated with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.  Ephesians 2:8-10 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them”.  God intervenes to save us because of His love and mercy not giving us what we rightfully do deserve which is judgment.  He brings salvation to pass by His grace.  We are called to receive this offer of reconciliation with God by faith alone, not trusting in any righteousness of our own. Good works will be the evidence not the means of salvation (James 2:26).  Being “saved” or “born again” doesn’t mean life will become easier (John 3:1-8). In fact, count on being misunderstood, ostracized, persecuted, and maybe even killed for your faith in Christ. If the unbelieving world has hated Christ, assuredly, they will hate His followers as well (John 15:18-25).  Therefore, you should count up the cost of being a follower of Jesus because it requires giving of yourself fully and lying down the fleshly desires so that the will of God may be done in your life.  But please note that having your sins forgiven, being declared righteous, fulfilling the purpose for which you were created to serve and glorify God), experiencing joy in the midst of turmoil, and inheriting eternal life in heaven are definitely far more precious that any temporal trouble.
One of the followers of Jesus answered the question:  “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).  It is such a very simple response, but what exactly does it mean to “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ”?  And from what do you need to be “saved”?

Saved from what?, you may ask.  The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God as stated in 2 Timothy 3:16, and it is entirely truthful as mentioned in John 17:17 and Psalm 119:160.  These Scriptures provides us with a straight to the point answer to what we need to be saved from.  The Bible states that God created and sustains everything in the universe (Genesis 1:1; Job 38:1-41). God is our Creator, we are His workmanship. He has fashioned us in His own image.  He is the One who established the foundational laws of morality and nature.  And He has sole authority over His creation although many choose to rebel against Him.  Father God desires that we all be in right standing with Him (1 Timothy 2:3-4).  Additionally, God is Judge.  He has established righteous laws for the benefit of our soul prosperity, but unfortunately many people have chosen to disobey His laws in sort form or another.  Many people stray away from God and fall into a life of sin by doing one of the following:

  • lying / deception
  • lusting / masturbation
  • adultery / fornication
  • gossiping / slandering
  • envying / jealousy
  • coveting
  • stealing
  • cheating
  • idolatry
  • blasphemy / using God’s or Jesus’ name as a curse word

Of course, this is just a short list.  There are numerous more sins people fall into.  Some of God’s laws that we’ve broken can be found in Exodus 20:1-17; these laws are known as The Ten Commandments.  Another reference of God's laws can be found in Matthew chapter 5 in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.  If we don't seek forgiveness of our sins, we will be in violation of God's laws and we will have the fate of standing before Him as Judge one day.  God is a righteous Judge.  No one will get away with any wrong doing for He will judge every man according to his works / deeds.  God sees and hears everything.  He has a record in the "Book of Life" of every single sin we have ever committed.  If don't repent of those things, they remain in the Book.  However, if we repent, then God throws those sins into the sea of forgetfulness and gives us a clean record and a fresh start. This clean state leads to the road of salvation and spares us from God’s judgment and wrath to come which ultimately means being damned into the "lake of fire" in hell (Revelatiion 20:15).  Although God is loving, forgiving, merciful, and gracious, the Bible also presents God as being full of wrath against those who break His laws and reject His offer of reconciliation.  Would God really send me to hell? Glad you asked!  A lot of people don't believe that hell is an actual place.  They question “If hell is real surely a loving God wouldn’t send anyone there.” However, the Bible cleasrly states that God has the authority, the power, and the intention of sending everyone who rejects His Son Jesus Christ there. Consider this Scripture:  "He who believes in the Son [Jesus Christ] has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” -- John 3:34.

There are two options:  either hell is real or hell is not real.  But what if it is Real?  It would be wise to take the Bible at its word literally — Hell is real.  Being separated from God and punished in hell for eternity should cause everyone to ask, “What can I do to be saved from God sending me there? The answer is clear: “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.”  To “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ” is much more than intellectual assent to the fact that He existed; it means that you place your trust, your faith, your expectant hope for being saved in who Jesus is and what He did for you.
Now the final question for you is:
Will you respond to God’s call in your heart today and receive His loving, merciful, and gracious offer to save you?
Remember, you are sinful and stand condemned before God, the just Judge. Yet God loves you and desires to save you through His Son Jesus Christ who is our Mediator and pleads our case to God.  By the mercies of God, I urge you to ask God to forgive you of all of your sins and be reconciled to God today.  Invite the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart to be your Lord and Savior.  You will be made righteous in Christ.  God will fill you with His Holy Spirit, and He will give you eternal life in heaven. Now tell me, what could possibly be better and more important than seeing God and Jesus in heaven and living with them for all eternity?  Isaiah 55:6-7 -- Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon”.
Authentic saving faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to be right with God. If by God’s grace you have received this gift of faith, you must now spend the rest of your life striving to become more like your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in every aspect of life.  This includes thought, word, and deed.  You must strive to live a righteous life and abstain from all appearances of evil.  Yes, I know that sounds near to impossible — and it is in your own natural efforts.  However, God promises to give you the power and desire to live upright.  With God all things are possible and you can accomplish much with God on your side.  I encourage you to daily spend time in prayer and studying the Holy Bible in order to grow spiritually.  It will also be important that you become a part of a fellowship of other believers; find a Bible based church that is teaching the pure unadulterated Word of God without compromise,  where God is reverently worshiped.
Salvation Prayer
God I ask you to forgive me of all my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He was born of the virgin Mary.  I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins on the Cross; He was crucified, died, was buried, rose from the dead, and is now ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of God the Father.  Lord Jesus, I invite you into my heart and life to be my Lord and Savior. God fill me with your Holy Spirit now.  In Jesus' name I pray.  Amen!
Love♥️ & prayers!🙏
